Easy Car Care Tips For Summer

Summer is here and that means there are tons of awesome things to do with friends and family! From rodeos to road trips, camping to caravaning across the country to see some of our nation's most beautiful landmarks; the possibilities are endless.

Chances are, you'll be driving long distances in search of that perfect summer vacation, and it's with that in mind that we've compiled this list of tips for summer car care to keep you on the road to making amazing memories, instead of ending up in the auto shop.

  •  Check Your Fluid Levels: This is the most basic, key thing you can do when you're preparing for a road trip. Check all of your fluids, and replace them if needed. One of the biggest causes of breakdowns is overheating, and it would be a shame to end up on the side of the road when something so simple could have prevented such a huge problem

  • Change Your Oil & Filter: While the general rule of thumb states that you should do this every 3,000 miles, it can be a game changer to stop by the shop and have these changed right before a summer trip because intense cold or hot weather increases the strain on your oil and oil filter.

  • Check Your Tires: What good is a summer road trip if you ended up stranded on the side of the road with a flat tire? Take a few moments and check to see if your tires are balding or if the tread is wearing thin. Use this handy trick if you're unsure of how to check: Place a penny in the tread of your tire with Lincoln's head upside down. If you can see his head, it's time to get them changed.

  • Air-Conditioner: There's almost nothing worse than being stuck in a car in the summer with no air-conditioning. Baking in the summer sun is not only uncomfortable, it's downright dangerous. Have a mechanic check the air-conditioner to make sure it's in shape for long-haul drives, and have it serviced if it isn't.
